MOBILE LEARNING and INTEGRATING SOCIAL MEDIA as a TOOL

Through the use of portable devices and wireless networks, spaces for learning can now be outside of a traditional classroom, as well as increasing opportunities for educators to create interactive and flexible learning that is equitable, but engaging. Mobile technology usage provides students with abilities such as communication and collaboration, accessibility to information, and content creation through photography, audio capturing, and video.

While mobile devices have become a part of everyday life, so has social media as it’s used for a bevy of reasons, mostly for communication and content creation. Learners tend to gravitate towards social media and the building of digital communities, allowing students more opportunity for collaboration and communication on a network that is easily accessible to them.
For educators to integrate social media into learning for their students, they must create a set of standards and incorporate a strategy. Here are some that could guide you:
Set Rules and Responsibilities
Get Familiar
Accessibility
Collaboration
Make Yourself Available

The evolution of mobile devices is continually transforming with constant updates, design changes, and capabilities. A device that was once used for communication only, is a combination of a phone, computer, camera, and beacon all connected through the internet. With connected technologies such as smart watches and VR headsets, I am left wondering what the next “upgraded” tech will be that brings evolution to this mobile ecosystem. From discussions with the robotics teacher where I work, we have formulated the idea that it will be a phone that projects interactive images in a 3 dimensional space through the screen and a camera that can also be used as a projector for larger screen displays.
