What Does It Mean To Be Future Ready Post Covid?

Change Hath Come

The role of the teacher has changed post pandemic with educators adapting from the traditional in-person lectures to an environment of remote learning. Teachers now have to be more creative in order to keep students engaged as learners have made their homes the classroom, which are not always conducive to supporting a positive learning environment. Teachers now must manage their time wisely as it has been divided between teaching lessons, student engagement, and administrative tasks, highlighting an educators need for flexibility.

Go Forth and Explore

As schools adjust to become more technology integrated in order to bring the classroom to the students, tech integration has become a focal point in the learning process. “With this in mind, the education industry is exploring how to better use technology to improve the learning experience”, (CBInsights, 2020). For schools that have decided to re-open their doors and bring back face to face instruction, a hybrid learning approach has been maintained and become the norm. “As we prepare to return to campus, many of the technologies that helped us simply survive and sustain classroom continuity will become permanently embedded in our educational methods and play a pivotal role in the refinement of practices consistent with an ongoing shift to more student-centered learning”, (Curtin, 2021).

Define Thy Skill Set

With technology playing a pivotal role in the evolution of education, learning also continues to evolve through collaborative technologies aligned with pedagogy. Educators must merge the two in order to enable inclusive and engaging learning experiences. Through these changes, we must all strive to obtain future ready skills. A future ready skill set is complex problem solving through critical thinking, and collaboration which is built through forming relationships in virtual communities and the use of multimedia, as well as interaction with technology to obtain literacy in programming, all which allows development of executive functioning and cooperative works with others.

The Future is Nigh

As future technology seemingly leans towards Artificial Intelligence and a higher relevance on communicative technologies that provides information sharing, society is moving towards a collective people of participatory knowledge. The digital age currently holds opportunities that give everyone a role in contributing to enhanced learning and sustaining the growth of technology. Having skills to be future ready provides you greater opportunities to succeed if you can accommodate the increasing demands of a connected and informed world. With increased connectivity, the importance of becoming responsible digital citizens also increases. In education, helping students learn online etiquette and creating digital communities to improve the world around them will increase their success of building a strong foundation in preparing them to be future ready.

Thy Verdict

Developing future ready skills becomes increasingly more important in order to acquire knowledge, job opportunities, and growth both professional and personal. Education is positively accepting technology in the classroom to increase learning in order for students to gain future ready skills that they can use towards creating more opportunities for learning, employment, and growth.
