Designing Video Content for Interaction and eLearning

Designing educational content for the enhancement of student learning cannot be stressed enough. The continuous evolution of education through technology is bringing more prevalence to eLearning, not only in upgrading ways for students to obtain knowledge and skills needed, but for enabling learners to pace and guide their own learning. Whether content is in the form of eBooks, audiobooks, webinars, or video, content must be created with the student in mind for the maximizing of learning opportunities. Creating or developing content that fits student needs through understanding the learner is the key for student engagement.

One of the most effective ways to do this is by creating video content. Videos can help a student to deeply engage in subject matter through the promotion of more immersive and dynamic learning experiences by capturing the learner's attention and allowing them to visually experience the information being taught. Videos provide a way for concepts to be demonstrated through application of real-world scenarios, and how to apply them outside of the classroom.

Designing video content and eLearning videos to be interactive is another way to strengthen student engagement. This can be done in a variety of ways, whether it is through quizzes or questions, surveys or polls, and links for additional content. When content is interactive, it builds on a learner's trust by helping them feel supported, subsequently encouraging student engagement. The design and creation of interactive content material needs to take into account the learning styles of each student in order for this to happen.

How to Produce Quality eLearning Videos
Outline Your Content: Draft out the elements needed, as well as the activities in your video to gain an idea on the size of your project, time needed, and effort you will devote.
Matching Your Video to Content: Find how you integrate the video into the content for knowledge consumption.
Pairing & Length: Use audio tools for additional narratives to explain graphics. Make sure your videos are to the point. Sometimes, the short and sweet is best.
Audio & Video Effects: integrating background music with your video enhances immersion, but should not distract from the information.
Accessibility: Make sure that your video can be accessed through multiple device types to accommodate your students.
